i’ve been cooking with mustard oil for a little while now, and recently noticed the recommended use on the back of the bottle. FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY. say what?  i knew about it being used for massages and as a hair conditioner and figured since it came from the food aisle, that it would be safe for cooking.  why did i never look at the back of the bottle?  we’ll save that analysis for another time.  i did try to condition my hair with the stuff a few years back, and it didn’t produce exciting results.  i did however get on a real beans ‘n greens kick.

after a little bit of research, i found out that Mustard oil is not considered suitable for human consumption in the united states because of its high content of the noxious erucic acid.  it is also a valuable component of bio-diesel, and is used to repel cats and dogs.  oh dear.  the cabbage tasted just fine the other night.  i don’t remember if mae was avoiding us.  she usually spends her evenings curled up in the bedroom while we are in the living room.  hmm.  i’m starting to feel like a mustard oil renegade!  that is sort of exciting (and equally terrifying).  i need more information…

Hi there

I just stumbled accross your blog through stumbleupon and love the clean design and the photos. I already have about 20 blogs in my RSS so don't normally stop and read them as already have more than i can read but the design here caught my eye! I started off as a blogger myself a year ago and like your blog always wanted to keep it fresh and clean and easy to read. I have started my own site for food bloggers, chefs and foodies in general to meet and share photos called www.ifoods.tv and would love to see some of your photos there. I set it up because I was frustrated that not enough people were seeing what I thought was my excellent blog and I afelt that every blogger in the world probably thought the same! It is basically a platform for bloggers to show off their photos and meet other foodies. Keep up the good work on the blog, have added you to make it 21 food blogs no! Cheers!
